Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam: with Toy-piano, electronics & dance

While the toy piano may have originated as a toy version of a grand piano, this little instrument brings with it a whole new world of sound and character, actually quite different from its better-known counterpart. Each instrument has its own personality, charms, and quirks. The instruments are not built with perfection—and that is what makes each instrument unique.

This program focuses on the music of Christina Viola Oorebeek. Chromotoy is a series of works by Oorebeek, the word she uses for the multicoloured sounds that can be made on keyboard instruments with the 12 tones of our harmonic world. Solid sound colours, mixed colours, and primary and pastel colours unite what we hear and see in the eye and ear.

Creatural (premiere)

'Creatural' is a compelling dance theatre production that focuses on what makes us who we are. It's a story about the hidden parts of ourselves that we often keep shut out of the world.

The play is set against the backdrop of the human psyche and delves into the complicated interplay between consciousness and primal instincts.

Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam offers a stage for contemporary chamber music. Adventurous and small-scale performances, new compositions and leading musicians; in Plein Theater, you can experience this unique concept in an intimate atmosphere every month. The series offers the opportunity to reflect on the current time and thus forms a laboratory for the sound of today. The curators and artistic leaders of Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam are composer Aspasia Nasopoulou and bass clarinettist Fie Schouten.
