Bach's Christmas Oratorio

'The Christmas story is very special, hopeful and comforting,' according to Peter Dijkstra, chief conductor of the Netherlands Chamber Choir. The composer combined the six cantatas that Bach wrote for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Third Day, for New Year's Day, the Sunday after New Year's Eve and for Epiphany into one whole. The contrasts are rich and exciting: the jubilant joy of trumpets and timpani, the cradle song of the cor anglais.

Netherlands Chamber Choir and Concerto Cologne

The performance of Bach's Christmas Oratorio has become a real Christmas tradition at the Netherlands Chamber Choir. Every year, the choir, led by chief conductor Peter Dijkstra, brings Bach's Christmas story to the stage. Each time with a different instrumental ensemble. This winter, Concerto Köln, a company specialized in historically informed performance practice, has been invited. Count on a challenging combination of musicians in Bach's energetic oratorio.
