MidWest Radio gymzaalconcerts: Ruth Mac + Tamara van Esch
Ruth Mac
Ruth Mac is a singer-songwriter and musician from the west coast of Ireland, based in Berlin. Her influences come from both seventies folk (Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Raitt, Karen Dalton) and contemporary indie rock (Alice Phoebe-Lou, Courtney Barnett, Angel Olsen). Mac's catchy and soulful vocals sit gracefully atop catchy hooks and lush guitars. She combines effortlessly conveyed melodies with sentimental lyrics. On stage she is an engaging performer who breathes new life into the music.
Mac's debut EP “Living Room” was released in October 2021 on Beth Shalom Records. Living Room, a four-track piece about a move from Ireland to Berlin, sold out its limited run of 10″ lathe vinyls and was accompanied by a tour of the UK, Ireland and Germany.
Tamara van Esch
Indietronica-NL pop with a calm voice and extraordinary use of instruments; with influences from My Brightest Diamond to Blur. Her most recent album Tussen Lagen was released with a release tour in TivoliVredenburg, Roode Bioscoop, Ekko, Cinetol, Graceland festival and shows in Belgium, Germany, Cyprus and a tour in Japan. With Tussen Lagen she gives a stage to unusual stories that also provide hope, resulting from interviews with psychologically vulnerable people, for which lyrics and artwork were created together with them. The music was written with artists from different genres, giving the record a broad, dynamic sound.
Tamara previously played gigs under the name Mrs. Tamara and toured worldwide with bands from dream folk to hard rock. In addition to her own music, she is currently part of London synth altpop trio Render Ghosts and a member of rock band Blaudzun.
Doors open from 8:00 PM.
