Maria & Nathalia Milstein recital
The acclaimed sisters return to the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ with a dream recital that leads through Beethoven's Third Violin Sonata and works by Stravinsky and Webern. It concludes with Richard Strauss' moving Violin Sonata in which the ''sweet, slender, supple and refined tone'' (The Strad) of the violinist can shine perfectly.
Maria & Nathalia Milstein recital
A dream recital complete with declaration of love
A violinist who 'sounds like melancholy' and two sisters who play 'as if they grew out of one body'. The Milstein sisters receive critical acclaim wherever they play. The right people to bring Richard Strauss' Violin Sonata to life. The composer wrote the work, which sounds like a symphonic poem for two, shortly after he met his later wife Paula de Ahna. The lyrical middle section became an undisguised declaration of love.
