Luke Stewart’s Silt Trio
Free grooves and rhythms from influential players from the American underground in the Bimhuis. The leading magazine Downbeat has listed Luke Stewart among the '25 for the Future': key figures of the current generation who hold the future of jazz in their hands. In his current Silt Trio, the influential bassist tends towards spiritual jazz in the tradition of Albert Ayler. This is expressed in free rhythms and grooves, with undertones of the blues from his birthplace Mississippi.
Luke Stewart's Silt Trio
The trio is completed by tenor saxophonist Brian Settles and drummer Chad Taylor. Luke Stewart has previously performed at the Bimhuis alongside acclaimed saxophonist James Brandon Lewis and in the group Irreversible Entanglements with poet Moor Mother. From his hometown of Washington DC, Luke Stewart is active in music in various ways: as a double bassist and electric bassist, but also as a saxophonist, producer, radio maker and organizer. Silt Trio released the album The Bottom on Cuneiform Records in 2022.
