Lahav Shani en Rotterdams Philharmonisch in Mahlers Symfonie nr. 2
Mahler 2
When Gustav Mahler was asked for an explanatory text for his Second Symphony , he refused. 'In my opinion it is not a contribution if you push a program booklet into the hands of the audience.' It was to be listened to, not read. Yet text forms an important part of this 'Resurrection Symphony'. The choir Laurens Symfonisch sings, among other things, a chorus based on Mahler's song Urlicht . The Second Symphony leads from idyllic memories to the harsh realization of mortality. And onwards, to new beginnings again and again.
