Klenke String Quartet - Mozart and Debussy

Debussy's only string quartet and Mozart's 'Hoffmeister quartet' are pearls from the literature for strings. These are also two favourite works of the German Klenke Quartett, which was recently awarded the Saxon Mozart Prize 2022.

Masterpieces by Mozart and Debussy

Mozart wrote more than 20 string quartets, of which the six 'Haydn quartets' are the best known. He dedicated them to his inspiration, Joseph Haydn, the founder of the string quartet. A year after the successful reception of this famous series, Mozart composed the cheerful 'Hoffmeister Quartet' in 1786, which he dedicated to his friend and music publisher Franz Anton Hoffmeister. More than 100 years later, Debussy would also venture into this traditional genre. His String Quartet has the same structure as the quartets of Haydn and Mozart but is full of new timbres and surprising rhythms.

Klenke quartet wins Mozart Prize

The German Klenke Quartett has been playing on the most important international stages and festivals for over 30 years. The ensemble's lineup has remained unchanged throughout all these years. 'Authentic game! Beautifully executed!' 'A musical highlight' and 'Flawlessly coordinated!' the press wrote highly about the CD cycle containing Mozart's best-known string quartets. The quartet was recently awarded the Saxon Mozart Prize 2022. Debussy's String Quartet is also regularly on the stands and also appeared on the first album of the Klenke Quartett in 1998.
