Klapstuk: Klassieke highlights met Jess Gillam en James Baillieu
In just one hour, experience the highlights of classical music with Klapstuk. Short pieces, musical tapas, and a sampling of various delights. In between, a host and the musicians provide explanations. Tonight, saxophonist Jess Gillam and pianist James Baillieu serve up music that captivates the ears. English will be spoken during this episode of Klapstuk.
This concert is part of Hemelbestormers (Sky Stormers). At Hemelbestormers, we welcome the new generation of up-and-coming top musicians, each with a unique, fresh look at music. With groundbreaking plans, these musicians breathe new life into music, from ancient to contemporary, in their own way. The Hemelbestormers do not shy away from breaking new ground and presenting surprising concerts. These are the concerts where you can later say, I was there!
Jess Gillam and James Baillieu
Last season, she toured major European venues as a Rising Star; now, she will provide an evening during Klapstuk: saxophonist Jess Gillam can rightly be called a sensation. 'Not only one of England's most virtuoso instrumentalists but also a boisterous, inspiring personality,' wrote The Times. Gillam has pianist James Baillieu at her side, one of his generation's leading vocal and chamber music pianists and a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Klapstuk is the evening to discover classical music. For an hour, you will hear short highlights from popular pieces, with explanations in between by a host and the musicians. No prior knowledge of music is necessary. Short pieces that mean a little taste of everything. Musical tapas. Klapstuk is served in the lovely and intimate Recital Hall of the Concertgebouw, so you sit on top of the musicians. And after the concert, you don't have to go home straight away. The bar is open, and you can request a song from our house pianist, and it doesn't necessarily have to be classical music!
