New York singer-songwriter Kevin Devine is known for his introspective and political themes. His emotional songs are sometimes as fragile, subdued as the emo folk of Elliott Smith, and sometimes as loud and sharp as the alternative rock of Pixies. With that dynamic indie sound, he has made a name for himself over the past 20 years as one of the most characteristic songwriters in the city that never sleeps.
Surreal bedroom dream
Inspired by Shirley Jackson's 1959 book 'The Haunting of Hill House', his upcoming LP feels like a surreal bedroom dream. A personal encouragement from Devine to withdraw from this mean world every now and then. Musically it ripples between orchestral acoustic indie, lo-fi psych folk and melodic guitar pop.
