Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw & Shai Maestro
Shai Maestro, one of today's most talented jazz pianists, shares the stage with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Since his debut in 2011, the ECM pianist has developed into one of the most important pianists of his generation. His game is personal. He effortlessly connects different styles, rhythms and harmonies. Maestro also shows his signature as a composer, including in the Avishai Cohen trio. He combines elements from other music traditions and works a lot with polyrhythmic patterns and irregular time signatures, but above all, he focuses on fun. In combination with this strong big band from the top of Europe, this promises to be an evening with musical fireworks, accompanied by none other than big band titan Jim McNeely, known for the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, among others.

Absolute top
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw is one of the absolute top big bands in Europe. In addition to making more than a century of Dutch jazz accessible to new generations, the orchestra likes to look ahead and collaborates with contemporary (jazz) musicians worldwide. The orchestra has won several Edison Awards, including for the album Crossroads (2019), and has performed alongside world-class soloists, including Chick Corea, Christian Scott and Joshua Redman. In 2022, the orchestra released the album 'Threnody' full of compositions by Jim McNeely, one of the most progressive composers in contemporary big band jazz. According to de Volkskrant, "A particularly beautiful big band album, the likes of which unfortunately are rarely made.".
Big Sound Amsterdam
Big Sounds gives way to bands and orchestras that literally fill the entire stage. This is the new heyday for the grand gesture in music, and Big Sounds is on top of it, with adventurous big groups setting the tone for the future. They play with guts and take up the challenge with new sounds and influences for which they want to make everyone enthusiastic.
This year, Big Sounds is spread over five concert evenings at five top locations, which are working together in such a united way for the first time: Tolhuistuin, Meervaart, Bimhuis, Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Concertgebouw. Together, we do everything we can to let the players shine and to make Amsterdam the international hotspot for extra big music!
