Jazz Gems: Fuensanta

A multi-disciplinary musician

Fuensanta Méndez is a singer, double bassist, composer and multi-disciplinary artist born in the water forest of Veracruz, Mexico. Her music contains unique yet simple poetry with which she tries to express a sincere and surreal vision of things in the world. Co-produced by Louis Cole, Fuensanta's debut album 'Principio del Fuego' was released last June via Snarky Puppy's NYC label GroundUp Music.

Over the past two years, she has been working on new compositions as an artist in residence at the BIMHUIS. In addition to her own projects, Fuensanta has also frequently performed as a guest artist for ensembles such as Snarky Puppy, Louis Cole & Metropole Orchestra, Ben van Gelder, Han Bennink and many others. It makes her one of the 'rising stars' in the European and South American jazz world.

The Grachtenfestival and the Keep an Eye Foundation are joining forces for a spectacular series of concerts called: 'Jazz Gems'. Four 'Gems' are selected in this series, these top talents of the highest order are given complete freedom to put together their own program. Expect new compositions, challenging collaborations and spectacular locations. These are the Jazz Gems!
