Poulenc's "false chant" Les chemins de l'amour can hardly be called a string quartet. The string quartet arrangement of the love song is subtle and refined, like a Parisian macaron. Beethoven had become not only deaf but also terminally ill in 1822. His doctor had little hope for a good outcome, but against all odds, Beethoven made a full recovery. Gratefully, he named the middle, expansive third movement of the Fifteenth String Quartet , Op. 132, "Heiliger Dankgesang eines Genesenden to God." The music follows Beethoven's transformation from half-dead to sprightly, and the quartet ends refreshed and cheerful.

Javus Quartet

With the son of the Hagen primarius on cello, the young Javus Quartet continues the tradition of the Hagen Quartet. Originally from Salzburg, the quartet now resides in Vienna. "They combine the tradition of the musical city of Salzburg with everything expected of a young string quartet today: perfect individual technique, insight into interplay, and maximum range in dynamics and tone," according to the jury of the Hans Gál Prize, which the quartet won in 2022.
