Jason Moran solo
On 21 April, the solo performance of the American jazz piano visionary can be seen in BIMHUIS. Jason Moran is an artist and, above all, a master storyteller.
American piano maestro
In the new series with renowned solo performers from the jazz world, we present Jason Moran. It has been years since the American piano master last performed at BIMHUIS. At that time, he was the leading light of the new jazz generation, with an eye for developments in hip-hop and contemporary art. He emerged as a storyteller of black American history with celebrated multi-media projects dedicated to Thelonious Monk, Fats Waller, and recently, James Reese Europe. Now, he will return for an intimate solo performance.
Pianist, composer and visual artist Jason Moran has been an absolute celebrity in American jazz since he won the Downbeat Critics Polls in the categories of jazz artist, pianist and album in one year. His Bandwagon Trio is widely regarded as 'one of the best jazz groups in the world' (The Guardian). He has now recorded an impressive series of albums for leading jazz labels such as Blue Note and ECM, both under his own name and in collaboration with greats such as Archie Shepp, Charles Lloyd, Milford Graves, Paul Motian and soprano Alicia Hall Moran, his life partner.
