Iván Fischer en het Concertgebouworkest - Bruckner en Bach
Ivan Fischer
Under the baton of honorary guest conductor Iván Fischer, the orchestra is looking forward to Bruckner's Third Symphony . Bruckner dedicated the profound symphony to his idol Richard Wagner. Iván Fischer emphasizes that Bruckner's art is essentially built on much older foundations: the last, and least played, of the four orchestral suites by the great Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1066-1069).
Bruckner's Symphony No. 3
Bruckner's Third Symphony is full of melodic and harmonic discoveries, but the Viennese audience did not like it: at the premiere in 1877 the audience left the hall, with the exception of Gustav Mahler and a few other young admirers. Bruckner's fragile self-confidence suffered a huge blow and he would continue to tinker with the work for years to come. Many years later the Third began to catch on, also in Amsterdam: it was the first Bruckner symphony that the Concertgebouw Orchestra ever played, in 1892.
