In de Schaduw van het Achterhuis
In the Shadow of the Secret Annex
A musical performance that tells a personal family story before, during and after the war.
The grandparents of our violinist Sandra Kox befriend the parents of Anne Frank and Miep and Jan Gies, the helpers of the people hiding in the Secret Annex (the Anne Frank house).
Passages in Anne's diary tell of the birth of Sandra's mother and of her grandfather. But the story is mainly about people's lives that went on despite the horrors of the war.
Dramaturge Marianne van Vliet directed the performance based on Miep Gies' diary, conversations with, and memories of, those directly involved, and excerpts from Anne Frank's diary.
Elise Keep, singer; Donna Musica: Sandra Kox, violin and Evelien Dubbeldam, cello; Hendrik-Jan Bosma, piano; Carien van Opstal, actor; Marianne van Vliet, texts and direction.
