Holland Festival: What's Your Heaven - CocoRosie
Bianca and Sierra Casady, known as CocoRosie, mix different styles and references, from hip-hop to folk and opera. They can convert the most painful experiences into catchy and visual pop songs. Together with associate artists ANOHNI, Kembra Pfahler and Johanna Constantine, the sisters are founders of the Future Feminism art project.
Holland Festival: What's Your Heaven - CocoRosie
A new musical world
With What's Your Heaven, CocoRosie gives a glimpse into their new musical world, in which electronics and string instruments form their chamber orchestra, and they play new and familiar material. They present new songs that confront the demanding modern reality, asking questions about the human condition, our destiny and history repeating itself.
Tired of the Western tendency to deny the sacred in the natural cycles of life and death, they sing:
“What have we become?
Do you want to live forever?
What's your heaven?
What is sacred?
Is Earth a lost paradise?
How do we get back?
How do we get back to the garden again."
CocoRosie: 'It took years before we were seen as adults, even though we were in our early 20s when we started. We were put in a weird box and seen as little girls playing dress-up, which was exhausting. Fortunately, a lot has happened in the last fifteen years regarding awareness of female and queer artists with different points of view. It feels good to talk about these things. It feels good to be a part of that."
