High Mass
Bach's High Mass (or Mass in B minor) is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful classical compositions. Indeed, Bach himself considered this his best composition, even surpassing the St Matthew Passion and St John Passion , because all of Bach's best is 'bundled' in this High Mass . Bach did not compose this 'high mass' all at once. The individual parts of the mass were composed over various years, the Credo, for example, in 1732 and the Agnus Dei in 1739. Incidentally, in Bach's time, it was not unusual for masses to be performed by both Protestants and Catholics.
Chœur de Chambre de Namur, Il Gardellino & top soloists
The Chœur de Chambre de Namur – which celebrates its fortieth anniversary in 2027 – is one of the world's leading chamber choirs, specializing in early music and Baroque music. Baroque ensemble Il Gardellino hardly needs any introduction, as it has already been a guest several times in the Baroque Vocal series. The four top soloists have all more than earned their stripes: countertenor Tim Mead, who works with the most famous conductors and orchestras, will perform a beautiful Agnus Dei. Joanne Lunn is one of the most prominent Baroque sopranos. Kieran Carrel's voice is described as 'A voice that sounds as clear and sweet as Austrian Eiswein' ( Spectator ), and Krešimir Stražanac has worked with the greatest ensembles, such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.
This concert forms a mini-series with, among others, the concert of June 6, 2027 (Stabat Mater & Nisi Dominus).
