Het Kuss Quartett - Bartók, Mozart en Coll

A journey through time in the Royal Concertgebouw with the German Kuss Quartett. If there is anything that characterizes their playing, it is narrative power and depth. The four string players perform music by Mozart, Bartók and Francisco Coll. In addition to the existing work, the quartet will play Francisco Coll's 'First String Quartet', written especially for the quartet.

Kuss Quartet

When browsing through reviews written about the German Kuss Quartett, the word 'fresh' often catches the eye. The four string players debuted in the Concertgebouw more than 20 years ago, and since then, they have only gained in narrative power and depth. They travel the world with a repertoire that spans the centuries. In the Small Hall, in addition to existing work, they will play Francisco Coll's First String Quartet, written especially for the quartet.

Bartok, Mozart and Coll

Six seems to be a sacred number for the string quartet: Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven wrote cycles of six pieces, Bartók spent his entire life writing his six quartets. Haydn heard Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's KV 464, dedicated to him, and said to Father Leopold: 'On my word of honour, your son is the greatest composer I know.' Bartók did not complete his quartet work with an exclamation point but with a whisper, including a reference to Beethoven's question about life: 'Muss es sein?'… Fransisco Coll's First String Quartet sounds.
