Transfigurations

Before Arnold Schoenberg became the great pioneer of atonal music, he had already composed masterpieces in the late-romantic idiom of Wagner and Richard Strauss. The specialists of Het Collectief pay tribute to Schoenberg with two of those pieces: the sextet Verklärte Nacht (1899) and the Kammersymphonie op. 9 (1906), in an arrangement by his pupil Anton Webern.

The Kammersymphonie , with its free tonality, inspired Berg to write his Piano Sonata Op. 1, which was arranged for Het Collectief by composer Tim Mulleman. Hanns Eisler wrote his Vierzehn Arten den Regen zu beschreiben as film music for the short film Regen by Joris Ivens, which will also be shown during the evening. Eisler dedicated the work to his teacher on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. Het Collectief knows this repertoire down to the last detail; they recently recorded the pieces by Schönberg and Berg on the CD Transfigurations .

Echoes of Nothing

From 7:45 PM to 8:00 PM in the Entrance Hall, prior to the concert in the Main Hall, the Reencounters duo will play music for marimba and violin.

Daniel Bolba and Inês Díez began their musical studies at the Conservatório - Escola das Artes on their native island of Madeira. They met again in the Netherlands and started their duo Reencounters in 2021. They aim to expand the literature for the unusual instrumentation of marimba and violin. They collaborate with composers and delve into existing repertoire, with the ambition to reinvent the place of modern music in classical programs.

Like Het Collectief's Transfigurations at 8:15 PM, they explore - and comment on - late French Romanticism.
