Han Bennink, Reinier Baas & Ben van Gelder
Han Bennink likes sounds from unlikely objects. That's why he can drum on anything he encounters, from a kitchen chair to the stage shelves. As co-founder of Instant Composers Pool, he has played in countless formations over the past 55 years. The same goes for the much younger saxophonist Ben van Gelder and guitarist Reinier Baas. Although this trio has been affectionately baptized the 'Children's Trio' by Bennink, Baas and Van Gelder are now approaching middle age and have built up an impressive track record. In this concert, Dutch most adventurous drummer joins forces with these two stage animals in the Bimhuis.

The three of them have played at home and abroad, from the Concertgebouw to Umbria Jazz and the North Sea Jazz Festival. Baas and Van Gelder have been on stage together more than 300 times. They released two albums as a duo, Smash Hits with the Metropole Orkest and Mokum In Hi-Fi , an ode to the city of Amsterdam. 'The whole thing sounded Monkian… There was an incredibly beautiful version of Body and Soul. During the encore, Bennink jumped from behind his drum kit to give one of his characteristic solos on the floor. The three radiated virtuosity. And above all fun. The audience loved it, says JazzFlits.
