Grote Pianisten: Kirill Gerstein
Kirill Gerstein
The best of European, American and Russian traditions come together in the playing of pianist Kirill Gerstein. The ultra-productive soloist recently undertook an award-winning project with composer Thomas Adès. In addition to those two acclaimed albums, he also released a Mozart CD together with colleague Ferenc Rados. Gerstein plays the great benchmarks from music history alongside brand new work. 'He is a keyboard T-rex,' wrote De Volkskrant . 'able to crush every key with his little finger. Only he doesn't, because he is also extremely musical.'
Stravinsky, Schubert and Liszt
Today Kirill Gerstein plays idiosyncratic works by three composers in the series Great Pianists. Starting with Stravinsky's neoclassical Sonata , a crystal clear and flawless work. In Schubert's Sonata in C minor , from the last months of the composer's life, the influence of Beethoven can be heard. This inventive but also emotional piece is full of unexpected twists. Gerstein brings Franz Liszt's serene Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude alongside the virtuoso and monumental Sonata in B minor .
