Feldmann, Berthaud and Steckel
The French violist Lise Berthaud has been forming a string trio for some time with cellist Julian Steckel and violinist Tobias Feldmann, both from Germany. In this ensemble, the members, who each play solo with the major orchestras, can express their love for chamber music. A previously announced visit to the Kleine Zaal was canceled due to covid. Now the trio is making its debut in Amsterdam, with a brand new program.
Mozart, Francaix, Beethoven
Mozart's Divertimento is still perhaps the most inventive string trio ever. He previously wrote divertimenti for all kinds of combinations of instruments. But the lightness that characterizes earlier works goes hand in hand with serious moments in the string trio. Mozart himself played the viola in the first performance of this serene work. In Beethoven's expressive String Trio in C minor, the composer of the later monumental string quartets can already be heard. From Françaix, Feldmann, Berthaud and Steckel play the String Trio in C from 1933. Note the playful, teasing scherzo.
