Hayden, who herself comes from a strictly religious Protestant family, identifies with Cain, who, as sung in her music, leads a tumultuous life full of poverty, drug abuse and domestic violence. Despite the similarities, Anhedönia emphasizes that she and Cain are different.
Hayden's personal struggles are also reflected in her music, from discovering her identity as a trans woman to her international breakthrough as a musician. After a quickly sold-out concert in Bitterzoet in 2022 and a show at Down The Rabbit Hole 2023, Ethel Cain will return to Paradiso in 2024 for a concert in the Grote Zaal as part of her 'Childish Behavior' Tour.
