Ensemble Nist-Nah
From his hometown of Nantes, Australian drummer and composer Will Guthrie runs a ten-piece group with equally open-minded percussionists from France, called Ensemble Nist-Nah. In it he incorporates his in-depth knowledge of gamelan, the Indonesian percussion music that can sound meditative on the one hand and raw and trance-inducing on the other. The ensemble uses metallophones, hand drums and gongs supplemented with drums, classical percussion and all kinds of found and discarded objects. The ensemble performs in the Bimhuis.

About Will Guthrie
Australian drummer and composer Will Guthrie often works with musicians who cannot be pigeonholed, such as Roscoe Mitchell, Mike Patton, Oren Ambarchi, Ava Mendoza and Mark Fell. In his music, Guthrie applies the knowledge he gained during his travels through Indonesia, about traditional forms such as the stately Gamelan Sekatan and the trance ritual Jathilan, both from Java, and Gamelan Salukat by the Balinese composer Dewa Alit. The group members combine these influences with their backgrounds in noise, avant-jazz and electro-acoustic music.
