Eliades Ochoa
Young weapon
Eliades Ochoa is known and loved worldwide as one of the original members of Buena Vista Social Club®. He sang the iconic opener 'Chan Chan' from the - now classic - first album of the Buena Vista Social Club®. At the time, Eliades was the young weapon of the club. Admittedly, he was already 50 years old and had led Cuba's famous band Cuarteto Patria for 18 years - but he was still a young man compared to legendary veterans like Compay Segundo and Ibrahim Ferrer. Legends that played the stars of heaven even before Ochoa was born. And with whom he entered into unforgettable duets on classic songs such as 'Candela' and the aforementioned 'Chan Chan'.
Cuban Johnny Cash
After Buena Vista, Ochoa released nine albums, won four Latin Grammys and received a Grammy nomination for 'Afrocubism' (2010). His new album Guajiro was released in May 2023. The 'Cuban Johnny Cash' once again shows that he is a unique voice with his own style and sound. Deeply rooted in Cuban tradition but with an appeal that is timeless and universal. "It's a different phase in my life than when we made Buena Vista," Ochoa says. “People like Compay and Ibrahim had a great history and a lot of stories, and making that album with them opened doors to the whole world. Now it feels like the right time for me to tell my stories. I'm in the right place and these songs are very close to my heart. You could say it's my certificate.'
