Duo du Toit-Kooper

Duo du Toit-Kooper presents their new album, She/Her. Maria du Toit (clarinet) and Vera Kooper (piano) immersed themselves in works by female composers from all over the world, ranging from 19th century France to modern-day Nigeria. Much of the repertoire was forgotten or even turned out to be so undiscovered that it had never been recorded. This duo has made it their mission to put these composers in the spotlight and dedicates this special album to their work. During this concert, the duo will play a number of these undiscovered gems, supplemented with other works that make the evening a varied whole.

About Duo du Toit-Kooper

Maria du Toit and Vera Kooper will play their debut concert in 2021 during the Day of Romantic Music , they felt such a strong connection that they decided to remain a duo. With their program She/Her they toured all over the world, from the prestigious Amsterdam Concertgebouw to an extensive tour through South Africa. The program turned out to be such a great success that they decided to record it. This debut album, which will be released in 2024 under the Channel Classics label, will be festively presented in De Waalse Kerk.

Maria Du Toit

Maria Du Toit (clarinet) is considered one of the top instrumentalists of her home country, South Africa. After having been principal clarinettist of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra for 13 years, the Netherlands is now the base for her worldwide solo and chamber music career. Du Toit has won numerous competitions and prizes both in South Africa and Europe, including first prize at the international clarinet competition 'Jeunesses Musicales' in Bucharest. Du Toit can be heard on stages in Europe, the US, Asia and South Africa. She has released 3 albums and received a nomination for a South African Music Award (SAMA) for her album Luminous Shade . Her double CD of the complete clarinet concertos of Louis Spohr received numerous international rave reviews.

Vera Kooper

Vera Kooper (piano) is described as a sensitive and expressive musician, with an impressive technique and passionate dedication. In 2013, Vera co-founded the Delta Piano Trio, with violinist Gerard Spronk and cellist Irene Enzlin. The trio has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Kersjes Prize in 2020, and has performed extensively in Europe, Russia, Israel, China, Korea, Indonesia and the US. In 2020, Vera released her first solo CD, with works by Ludwig van Beethoven and John Corigliano. In addition, she toured the Netherlands extensively in 2021 with Floris Kortie and the performance The year 250 after Beethoven, a theatre production about the life and piano sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven.
