The fugue was the masterpiece among compositional forms, and Johann Sebastian Bach was the master of the fugue. In ' Die Kunst der Fuge' he showed what was possible. In addition to a sample of techniques, music reaches all corners of the human psyche. And it is shrouded in mystery: why did the 14th and final fugue remain unfinished, ending at the precise moment when the name 'Bach' is introduced into note names? The work exists in many settings since Bach did not specify any instruments. On 30 January, you will hear the work in an arrangement for oboes, bassoons and strings.

One-off concerts

In the chamber music series 'Close-up', musicians from the Concertgebouw Orchestra play self-composed programs in the Recital Hall. These are all special one-off concerts that cannot be heard anywhere else. The way to experience the individual qualities of the orchestra musicians! The intimate concerts are organized by the Friends of the Concertgebouw and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
