Martin Fröst
The versatile Swedish clarinet phenomenon Martin Fröst is serving as the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s artist in residence this season. His virtuosity and musicality are expressed as much in groundbreaking multimedia productions as in more traditional concert settings.
This intimate close-up concert sees Fröst performing two classical masterpieces together with string players from the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Mozart’s love of the clarinet and its close relative the basset horn is expressed in the beautifully lyrical Clarinet Quintet. Brahms, for his part, enriched the clarinet repertoire towards the end of his life with a whole series of masterworks – the Clarinet Trio being one example.
Close-up
Musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra perform their own programmes in the Recital Hall as part of the Close-up chamber music series. Each of these concerts is unique and performed only once as part of the series. It’s the very best way to experience the individual qualities of the orchestral musicians! These intimate concerts are organised by the Friends of the Concertgebouw and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
