The Chapel Choir of Christ's College
Christ's College was founded in 1850 as part of the Canterbury Church of England settlement. Over time, the College has developed into one of New Zealand's leading boys' schools.
The Chapel Choir, under the direction of Robert Aburn, consists of members ranging in age from 12 to 18, representing all levels of the University community. Their repertoire reflects the College's Anglican heritage and includes various sacred and secular works by leading New Zealand and other contemporary composers. Works commissioned by leading New Zealand choral composers Patrick Shepherd, Chris Archer, David Hamilton and the Puanaki Whanau are included in their repertoire.
The choir is at the forefront of developing innovative programs through collaboration with leading New Zealand choral composers. Recent work with the Puanki Whanau has created three powerful waiatas for the choir, which recognizes the importance of celebrating the art forms of our Indigenous New Zealand people.
