Christmas Oratorio by JS Bach
What would Christmas be without J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio ? What his St. Matthew Passion is to Easter, the Christmas Oratorio is to Christmas. Treat yourself to a world-class performance, conducted by renowned conductor Christoph Prégardien, featuring the Baroque orchestra Il Gardellino, the choir of the Palau de la Música Catalana, and four top soloists. The Christmas Oratorio consists of six separate cantatas, written for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and Epiphany, among other occasions. Today's program features the first, second, third, and sixth cantatas.
Prégardien, Il Gardellino, Choir of Palau de la Música Catalana
Christoph Prégardien: who doesn't know him? The famous tenor is, for many, the evangelist in Bach's passions. His knowledge and years of experience have made him a top conductor in the Baroque genre. A concert under his direction is always of the highest caliber. Il Gardellino is now among the world-renowned Baroque orchestras and has gained recognition in the Netherlands after two fantastic performances in the Main Hall (including Pergolesi's Stabat mater and with Dame Sarah Connolly). The Choir of Palau de la Música Catalana also needs little introduction. The choir guarantees a clear and transparent performance of Bach's Christmas Oratorio .
This concert is part of a mini-series with the concert on June 14, 2026 (Stabat mater & Nisi Dominus).
