Kian Soltani plays Haydn

The Austrian-Iranian cellist Kian Soltani is a guest at Amsterdam Sinfonietta. He recently released his albums Home and Cello Unlimited, ranging from film music to Schubert. Soltani has previously made the Road to Iran program with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Today he performs Haydn's Cello Concerto in D major. He does so with flair, wrote the Washington Classical Review. The elegant but also quite challenging concerto for the cellist is conducted by Candida Thompson. Schubert's arrangements for cello and string orchestra by An die Musik and Du bist die Ruh' will be played.

Mendelssohn

A selection of musicians from the Amsterdam Sinfonietta will play Mendelssohn's Sixth String Quartet. His last completed work. On the doctor's orders, Mendelssohn stayed in the Swiss mountains to recover from the loss of his sister Fanny. He couldn't rest; he just went to work very hard. In the Sixth String Quartet, he processed all the feelings a mourner goes through anger, nostalgia, sadness, and stillness... A beautiful expression of love to his sister, whom he would follow shortly afterwards in death.
