Beethoven Festival with Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century

Three days of highlights from the master: the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century celebrates the Beethoven Festival. From 23 to 25 May you will hear symphonies and solo concertos – always one of each. The Russian Alena Baeva is the soloist in the Violin Concerto . Cappella Amsterdam is a guest in the vocal final movement of the Ninth Symphony . Freud, Freud! You will also hear the First Symphony and the Third Symphony , 'Eroica', among others. A beautiful sample card. Today pianist Alexander Melnikov chooses one of the piano concertos.

Alexander Melnikov

Alexander Melnikov's approach to Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto is no less than an eye-opener, wrote a Canadian newspaper. "Not for the faint hearted." The Russian top pianist knows how to make both the drama and the spiritual side of this Imperial Concerto shine on fortepiano, and all that elegantly. British conductor Jonathan Darlington also conducts the Third Symphony , the 'Eroica'. Beethoven wrote it with the revolution that was raging through Europe as inspiration, but the monumental work has also proved to be revolutionary musically.
