Barry Can't Swim at the Melkweg
Joshua Mainie, better known as Barry Can't Swim, is a versatile musician from Edinburgh who combines elements of deep house, jazz and afrobeat. His versatile sound also reflects major sources of inspiration such as The Avalanches and Maribou State. After enthusiastic initial releases on Soundcloud, the Scottish musician eventually signed to Ninja Tunes Technicolour. Join him at the OZ stage in the Melkweg.
His long-awaited debut album 'When Will We Land' has just been released, and is perhaps his boldest statement yet. The voice notes of friends and family that the producer has incorporated into his songs have an extra personal effect.
Barry Can't Swim embraces the energy of club music in his music and mixes it with organic (live) elements. The Edinburgh-born musician turned heads in 2020 with a string of releases, before signing to Ninja Tune's Technicolour with EP More Content in 2022.
Building on this fresh success, he released his debut album When Will We Land? out on Ninja Tune. His most broad and diverse project to date has eleven tracks and musically moves from deep house to jazz and afrobeat.
