Thomas Beijer and Barbara Kozelj
In the composition of Thomas Beijer's series of Spotlight concerts, a collaboration with mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj was high on the wish list. The pianist says: 'We both have a great fondness for Slavic music, especially vocal works. One of the few times I was really moved on stage was when I performed songs by Janáček with Barbara.'
Janáček, Dvořák and new song cycle Beijer
Also in this concert Beijer and Kozelj make a selection from the Moravian folk songs by Janáček. Works by Dvořák and Chopin will also be heard. In addition, Beijer wrote a new song cycle, which premieres today. 'Slavic folk poetry is full of images of nature, and often verges on the cliché. Yet it is real, and it touches you. That is very special. I've written five poems in that style, Barbara will translate them into Slovenian, and then I'll set them to music.'
