An adventurous journey
What happens when Barbara Hannigan and composers Bryce Dessner and David Chalmin examine the music of Hildegard von Bingen with Katia and Marielle Labèque? A great adventure, much of which is shrouded in mystery until the last moment, but the result of which will be at least astonishing. The singer and the piano duo will do everything they can to translate the impact that the music of the German abbess and mystic had at the time into the twenty-first century.
The first known female composer
From the moment Hildegard von Bingen founded her own convent on the Rupertsberg in Bingen in 1147, she set her visions to music, becoming the first female composer whose work has survived. In doing so, she managed to reinterpret the rules of Gregorian chant in such a way that she achieved the greatest possible emotional expression. In Electric Fields , these musical visions take shape with light, soundscapes and projection. And with fabulous performances by Barbara Hannigan and the Labèque duo.
