Bach Ensemble Amsterdam will perform the beloved Johannes Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach on April 8 in the Singelkerk in Amsterdam. The Johannes Passion is now almost as popular as the Matthaus Passion. Bach Ensemble Amsterdam is an ensemble – choir and orchestra – that performs the music of Bach and contemporaries passionately and with style awareness. The musicians love nothing more than putting aside their busy daily lives to play and sing Bach. The ensemble is coached by a group of professional musicians, who work for the Netherlands Bach Society, among others.

Bach Ensemble Amsterdam
merges two different versions of the St John Passion into its own 'preferred version'. And, also special: two viola d'amores have been added to the ensemble for the occasion. These are instruments with a total of 14 strings: 7 strings that are played and 7 extra resonating strings. That special constellation gives the special warm, resonant amore 'love' sound.
