Apifera – Overstand
Electronic jazz on the progressive American label Stones Throw Records. Apifera sounds edgy, electronic and completely contemporary. At the same time, the music reflects nature, with organic structures and harmonies. The band is named after an orchid with a special attraction to bees. They are on stage in the Bimhuis.
Apifera – Overstand
Contemporary jazz with a twist
The debut album Overstand was critically acclaimed in Mojo and The Wire, among others. The follow-up 6 Visits EP features covers by Madlib, Duke Ellington, Massive Attack, Prokofiev, Sunbear, McCoy Tyner and Squarepusher. Apifera is an asset to Stones Throw Records, the hip-hop and jazz label of DJ and vinyl connoisseur Peanut Butter Wolf from Los Angeles.
The band has no fewer than two keyboard wizards in its ranks, Yuval 'Rejoicer' Havkin and Nitai Herskovits. The latter could be seen on our stage more often and became known as a band member of bassist Avishai Cohen. The interplay of Rejoicer and Nitai sounds grand and orchestral on the one hand and bizarre and psychedelic on the other.
