Anna Lucia Richter & Daniel Heide
"When we sing, we tell stories. Stories always have something human about them because they are ultimately a collection of experiences passed on." These are the words of mezzo-soprano Anna Lucia Richter. There's no more fitting statement for Schubert's Winterreise than this. Interestingly, this cycle is usually sung by a baritone, but not tonight. Daniel Heide accompanies.
Schubert's Winterreise
Winterreise , a song cycle with a text by Wilhelm Müller, was composed a year before Schubert's death. In 24 kaleidoscopic snapshots, Schubert paints the mood swings of a lost, wounded, and lonely person. Few works of art have so shockingly captured the torn essence of existence. And yet, listening to the cycle is a delightful experience, so gentle and beautiful is the music in which Schubert has wrapped his somber message. Enjoy, and dry your tears afterward.
