Amsterdam Bach Consort - Bach & Pärt
Not many people know that in the 1960s, Arvo Pärt was utterly captivated by the music of JS Bach and wrote several pieces in Bach's idiom—a good reason for the Amsterdam Bach Consort to put these two composers in the same program.
Amsterdam Bach Consort - Bach & Pärt
Arvo Pärt
Pärts Collage su BACH always misleads the listener: we think we hear Bach, but the lack of a tonal feeling makes us doubt. In addition, the Amsterdam Bach Consort will also perform Te Deum, in which Pärt always uses a melody of five notes for words with five syllables. Fewer or more syllables lead to a larger or smaller melody. Between the two works, the Amsterdam Bach Consort places Cantata BWV 4 Christ lag in Todesbanden by Bach: one of the most beautiful compositions and probably the first known cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Amsterdam Bach Consort
Of course, the Amsterdam Bach Consort sings music by its namesake, but it does much more: old music is combined with contemporary music, commissions are given for new compositions and, in addition to instrumental ensembles, there is a collaboration with theatre and dance companies. With Bach as a starting point, the two worlds of early and contemporary music come together in a unique way.
