A Stairway to Heaven
During this tryout in Splendor, the Dutch String Collective takes listeners on a musical journey in "A Stairway to Heaven".
A Stairway to Heaven
A fascinating journey through three centuries of music
From Amadeus to Zeppelin, an A to Z with classics from hundreds of years ago to classics of today. Stairway to Heaven, one of the greatest rock songs of the 20th century, is the starting point of the theatre concert.
The Dutch String Collective explores a rich selection of musical masterpieces, including music by Purcell, Vivaldi, Mozart and Brahms. It shows that classical compositions can be just as 'catchy' as pop music. And that timeless compositions by Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Rogier van Otterloo can as quickly claim the descriptor of classical music.
Marieke de Bruijn, founder and leader of the ensemble: "Isn't music a Stairway to Heaven anyway? We want to bring you closer to heaven, with a staircase to a place where you can enjoy yourself and disappear. With text, we highlight backgrounds and make connections between the songs and the composers, why what has been written is written."
