Admire houseboats
Although the Houseboat Museum is unfortunately closed, there are still plenty of unique houseboats to admire across the city during an open-air walking route.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Hendrika Maria - the ship on which the Houseboat Museum is located - hiking journalist Bert Stok put together a unique walk past the unique houseboats which line the canals of Amsterdam. The walking route can be downloaded for free from the website (available in Dutch and English).
The walk consists of two parts and starts with the canal route (2 km), which answers frequently asked questions about living on the water. This is followed by the Amstel route (1.5 km), passing by nine unique houseboats.
Please respect the privacy of the houseboat residents during the walk.
