A watershed performance in Almere

Almere-based theatre company Vis à Vis are known for their unique, madcap-comedy-inspired performances and spectacles, and their shows always have something thoughtful to say about current issues in society (as reflected in their previous performances themed on the refugee crisis).

Their latest “survival comedy” is Mare, in which rising sea levels – caused by global warming – have flooded the entire Earth. Fittingly, the performance takes place on the Almeerderstrand (Almere's beach), 1.6 metres (5.2 feet) below sea level, with a one-million-litre basin of water acting as the stage.

The theatre also includes a bar, restaurant and an array of lounge areas, making it a great way to enjoy an evening out.
