Language as a link between cultures, but also as a barrier: this performance looks into how vocabulary and grammar can influence ways of thinking and of perceiving the world; the perils of translation; and the question of whether it’s possible to separate language from emotions and experiences. Concept, text and performance are by Vanja Rukavina, a former child refugee from Bosnia to the Netherlands, who draws on his experience of how learning a language is so closely intertwined with getting to know a new culture. Part of the Netherlands Theatre Festival.
