'De meiden' ('The Girls') is a 1947 play by Jean Genet, about two maids who hatch a plan to murder their mistress. Genet is regarded as the ultimate rebellious writer, placing the outcasts as his heroes. Whereas a maid usually makes but one appearance in a play, Genet casts her as the lead. Loosely based on a true story, the work seems perfect for Katie Mitchell, who is renowned for her dark themes and intensity.
