With their albums 'Rattus Norvegicus' and 'No More Heroes', The Stranglers established their name in 1977. They scored about 23 top 40 singles and 17 top 40 albums in the UK during their forty-year career. The group was also popular in the Netherlands, with several top-40 hits and performances in Toppop and Pinkpop as proof.

Because of their short, direct songs the band was often seen as one of the founders of the British punk rock scene, but in fact the band seldom followed a musical genre and effortlessly intertwined new wave with artrock and gothic with sophistipop.
