'Indie mambo' is what frontman and Calexico pianist Sergio Mendoza likes to call his own catchy and sunny mix of mambo, film music, rachera, surf, mariachi, cumbia, rock and jazz. The music of Orkesta Mendoza fits film scores of classic westerns and of Quentin Tarantino movies. The band was formed in 2009 out of a one-off tribute project to the Cuban mambo king Pérez Prado, which proved too much fun to stop. They already played festivals like Down The Rabbit Hole and Mundial and played the Melkweg in Amsterdm before as a support for Chico Trujillo. Now they're back for a headline show.
