Tineke Postma

Tineke Postma has celebrated international success, for example in collaboration with American jazz luminaries Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding. The Bimhuis Amsterdam composition assignment is a new adventure for the Frisian-born saxophonist. The soprano saxophone has a central role in her new music, which brings together varied elements: the sound of the electric jazz from the 1970s and 80s, rhythms from Indian music, and the M-Base philosophy of jazz innovator Steve Coleman. Paradoxes and dilemmas that emerged during the COVID-19 crisis turned out to be inevitable sources of inspiration.
