Specialist at work

As a specialist at the intersection of modern classical, jazz and electronics, AM.OK’s bandleader Tijn Wybenga brings together fourteen young musicians. AM.OK is a ‘melting pot orchestra’, bringing together multiple nationalities and styles, typical for the city of Amsterdam.

AM.OK presented itself for the first time in a sold-out BIMHUIS last year. A selection of the pieces can now be heard on the live album, which will be available at this concert. Wybenga writes intense, touching notes, rich and ripe, highly personal and specific.

The combination of Wybenga’s music and the characteristic improvisations by acclaimed musicians such as Kika Sprangers, Vuma Levin and George Dumitriu has been described as ‘a mind-blowing musical escape room.’ Wybenga is inspired by the individual characters of his collaborators, who can come from South Africa, India, South America, Russia or Europe. In 2018 he won the Rogier van Otterloo Award of the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.

BIMHUIS Productions gives room to the development of relatively unknown but excellent talent. Together with jazz musician Wybenga the BIMHUIS started a trajectory of several years with the aim to give an impulse to the new generation of jazz musicians in The Netherlands.
