A voice that lightens up your soul
Sophie Janna discovered traditional folk when she lived in Scotland. After moving back to Amsterdam, she became a fixture at the weekly folk session in Mulligans, singing traditional songs with whoever comes along. You can clearly hear the influence of Scottish and Irish ballads in her own songs, but Bon Iver, Nick Drake and Joan Shelley also spring to mind when you hear Janna's music. With a clear, sensitive voice and subdued guitar playing, she sings comforting songs that make you forget where you are.
After four albums with folk duo The Lasses it is now time for Sophie Janna's first EP of original songs. At the Roode Bioscoop, Janna presents her EP in a very special way: on three consecutive evenings she plays her songs with different musicians each night, focusing on one of the three major influences on her work: traditional folk (with Kaspar Laval ), Americana (with Janos Koolen), and indie folk (with Jarno van Es).
