A true original, and a fine composer

A dream came true for Dutch double bassist Jasper Somsen in 2012, when he started performing and touring with pianist/composer Enrico Pieranunzi. Several times they have performed at the BIMHUIS and at North Sea Jazz, and they have recorded two albums with drummer André Ceccarelli.

Now they will perform with Jorge Rossy, who made name as the drummer of the Brad Mehldau Trio. Three musicians from different directions, presenting a new album together: Common View, produced by Jasper Somsen himself. Enrico Pieranunzi is one of the leading European pianists of the past 40 years. He’s known for combining jazz with classical piano technique.

He made his breakthrough as sideman with trumpeter Chet Baker, who kept performing Pieranunzi’s composition Night Bird until his death. He has release over 75 albums under his own name and he has played with, among others, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian and Charlie Haden. Alongside his own compositions he has interpreted film music by Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota, as well as classical music by Scarlatti. ‘A true original, and a fine composer’ (The Guardian).
